30 Days of the Sound of Music: Day 5 - Favourite Captain Von Trapp Moment
Captain: Fraulein, I behaved badly. I apologize.
Maria: I’m far too outspoken. It’s one of my worst faults.
Captain: You were right. I don’t know my children.
Maria: There’s still time, Captain. They want so much to be close to you.
Captain: And you brought music back into the house. I’d forgotten. Fraulein, I want you to stay. I, uh, ask you to stay.
Maria: If I could be of any help…
Captain: You have already — more than you know.
There are so many wonderful Captain moments. But the one that will always just get me right to the core is the moment he hears his children and goes to sing with them. It’s such a warm moment between him and his children. You can tell in that moment just how broken he had been to himself and to his kids since his wife’s death. The way he looks at those kids, and the way they look back at him, hugging him, laughing with him…it literally has always brought tears to my eyes.
And it wraps up beautifully when he rushes after Maria to ask her to stay, to keep bringing life back to the household, to his children, to him. I really feel like this scene was the moment they all began to be a family.
I loved Captain Von Trapp in this movie. I really did.
