Day 3 – What Song Has The Highest Play Count On Your iTunes (Or Other Music Player)?

Currently at 548 plays on my iTunes, Don’t Stop Believin’ by Journey (1981) is the most played song on my iPod. The link is from their performance at the DTE Music Theatre, and I chose that performance because it’s in Michigan, the “hometown.” We people from metro Detroit really feel ownership for this song. I listen to this song at least once a week through some medium. I have loved it my entire life thanks to my parents and their love for real music. Yes, long before Glee, though I love their version.

This song has the most recognizable opening of any song. It cuts right to my core every time I hear it. Every time I hear it, every. single. time. I tear up. I feel like this is my song after years of going to events throughout the state where every single person bands together to sing “BORN AND RAISED IN SOUTH DETROIT!!!” You never feel more united than you do in that moment. It always brings hope. Steve Perry’s voice, strong and powerful, rings out and never lets up. He wails it out proud. It will always be a very special song to me, and even though I find it so hard to choose one, singular favorite song of all time ever, this one will always be up there.

Just a small town girl living in a lonely world
She took the midnight train going anywhere
Just a city boy born and raised in South Detroit
He took the midnight train going anywhere

A singer in a smoky room
The smell of wine and cheap perfume
For a smile, they can share the night
It goes on and on and on and on

Strangers waiting up and down the boulevard
Their shadows searching in the night
Streetlight people living just to find emotion
Hiding somewhere in the night
